Garth Beddome, BA, LMT, ST
Garth has been a practitioner and educator in the field of Massage Therapy and Structural Integration for over twenty years. He first graduated from the Swedish Institute in New York back in 1986 and has since gone on to certify as a Structural Therapist through the Core Institute in Florida and as Personal Trainer here in Winnipeg. After his dance career had ended, while still in New York, Garth worked as a therapist with the Feld Ballet Company and developed his private practice working primarily with actors, dancers and professional athletes. Garth was honored to become Principle of MTCM in 1997 and advance into the Directors position in 2004.
While balancing his responsibilities as a practitioner, instructor and Director, Garth also teaches Massage Technique in sport at the University of Winnipeg in the Athletic Therapy department. Career highlights to date include: working with The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and being one of four Canadians selected to the International Sports Massage Team for the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics.
Alison Deneweth, BPE, CAT (C), ATC, CSC
Alison is a certified Athletic Therapist with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Sport Science from the University of Alberta. In addition to teaching at the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba, she has instructed labs in anatomy, exercise physiology and fitness conditioning at the University of Winnipeg and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Manitoba. Alison is sole proprietor of Allsport, a private clinic located in Selkirk, Manitoba and has been selected to the core medical team for the Canada games on four separate occasions. Most recently, Alison was a team therapist for the 2003 World Junior under 17 hockey championships and chief therapist for the Western Canada Summer Games.
Glen Bergeron, PhD, CAT (C)
Glen is associate professor and coordinator of the Athletic Therapy curriculum at the University of Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Physical Education in 1973 and a Masters of Science from the University of Alberta in 1978. Glen completed his PhD in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Manitoba in 1992. A certified athletic therapist since 1975, Glen served as an executive member of the CATA for eight years, four as president. His contribution to the CATA has been acknowledged by way of a Special Recognition award in 1984; Outstanding Educator Award in 1993 and his induction into the CATA Hall of Fame in 1997.
Glen brings with him a wealth of clinical skills and experiences at the university, professional, national and international levels including his selection to the Canadian Medical Team for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Chief Therapist for the 1990 Western Canada Summer Games, the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, the 1995 World Cross-Country Running Championships in Durham England and the Chief Therapist for the 1995 World University Games in Japan. He worked as the coordinator of Athletic Therapy services at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg and the chief therapist for the Canadian medical team at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Sue-Anne Marie Hamilton
Sue-Anne completed her degree at the University of Winnipeg majoring in Sport Studies while playing for the university women’s volleyball team. A graduate with honours from MTCM, Sue-Anne recently opened her own clinic on Osborne st. called Hamilton Healing. As a licensed Massage Therapist and a clinic owner, Sue-Anne has developed a thriving practice working with a variety of clients. Sue-Anne has been a teaching assistant at our college since 2001, handling both supervision and clinic responsibilities. A world traveler who loves life, her family and friends, Sue-Anne always brings a positive energy to everything she does.
Jackie Halliburton
Jackie has been with the college for almost 10 years and in that time has served in both an advisory and teaching capacity. Jackie graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing degree. For eleven years, Jackie was a public health nurse for the city of Winnipeg. Her extensive knowledge in the areas of communicable disease, health promotion, and disease prevention enable her to bring clinical experience to our Pathology and Public Health courses. Over the years, Jackie has taken numerous courses in adult education and creative teaching. She utilizes an array of teaching tools in order to address the variety of learning styles our students present us with. Recently, Jackie facilitated a faculty development workshop in order to share her experiences and encourage all our instructors to teach outside the box.
Tom Dubreuil
Tom graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1995 with a degree in Social Work. After working for five years in northern Manitoba, Tom decided to return to school and broaden his perspective on health and healing. During his time up north, Tom came to the realization that the mind could not be entirely healed without dealing with the health of the body. This led to Tom’s enrollment at MTCM in 2000. Having a particular interest in health and wellness in the workplace, Tom sought out additional training in this area after graduation, which also led to his pioneering MTCM’s course on seated-workplace massage. He continues to develop and teach this course today. Tom’s outside interests have always included sports, in particular: martial arts, triathlon and swimming.
Deborah Romeyn, BPE, Ed. Cert
Deborah holds her Physical Education degree from the University of Manitoba and was a gold medallist in her graduating class of 1978. She continued on to postgraduate education in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and also certified as a teacher. Deb has been teaching in high school and university classrooms for over twenty years and has been an integral part of MTCM’s faculty since its inception in 1995.
Deborah’s massage training began at the Institute of Psycho-structural Balancing in San Diego in 1987. She has continued her studies in Crainiosacral Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Myofascial Technique and a variety of energy-based techniques. She is profoundly interested in mind-body-spirit connections and has worked extensively with people with long-term, chronic, or terminal illness. She is a sought after speaker and does presentations at conferences on cancer care and palliative care across Canada.
In addition to her massage therapy work, Deborah is a Manitoba singer and songwriter with three recordings to her credit. She also teaches high school biology and East-West medicine at Kelvin High School in Winnipeg.
